@ Cannes Festival of Creativity 2011 – DAY 4

Posted on | June 24, 2011

It is Wednesday and the day starts with Cheil & Samsung who gave their outlook into the future of ‘smart TV’.We hear about statistics on Apps that are already used very differently from the time when the smart phone was introduced. Apps now expand to smart TV which allows imaginative designers to maximize the use of technology. Our next TV screen will have a web cam that allows us to skype on the big screen – and it will have motion detection, so we can use our smart phone as a remote control, as a game device and as a keyboard. Quite funny the statistics on global App downloads: on a global basis, the No. 1 download is a internet radio tuner, Top 5 is an App that shows you dozens of options ‘how to tie your tie’ and Nr. 6 is a mood light App that when you’re not using your TV turns into ambient background art. The top App in the US and UK is a premium video-on-demand App, in France it is Gambling, in Italy (please reader, try to act totally surprised) it is ‘how to tie a tie’.

After lunch-programme: visiting the Google Beach Bar. Every step you take in this temporary lounge and playground area, from the entrance at the Croissette to the toilet, is branded with Google, YouTube and Android Avatars.
