My trend blog on

Posted on | August 22, 2013

This week, I wrote the 20th entry on the trend blog site of shoe manufacturer DEICHMANN –>

People keep asking me what I do with all the impressions and photos and stuff that I encounter on my trips throughout the world: I teach at Universities, I write in special-interest journals and I write blogs. What not make another filme? Well, film making takes way too long considering the speed that technology travels these days and a book – sigh – it’s been on my bucket list forever – will happen one day. But for now, if you master the German language, then you might find some useful input on Deichmann’s trendblog site. I write weekly, every Wednesday. Feedback and trends that you’ve seen which might be worth sharing and writing about are welcome.

Highlights of the Fête des lumières 2012 in Lyon

Posted on | December 11, 2012

‘La Fête des Lumières’ – the Festival of Lights – is an annually held event that takes place in Lyon, France.

The festival expresses gratitude towards Mary, mother of Jesus, on December 8 of each year. Every house places candles along the outsides of all the windows which has a beautiful aesthetical effect throughout the streets. The festival, which includes dozens of activities based on light lasted as usual 4 days, with the peak of activity on December 8th.

There were light displays projected onto iconic buildings and many light installations were mounted throughout the city. This was my third year at the festival and seeing the latest trends in light design from artists around the world influences my work and my knowledge tremendously.

The entire collection of installations with artists and the explanations behind the art work can be purchased on request at

Here a selection of my highlights upfront:

During my research for interactive designers, I came across some super awesome studios and hence, would like to share their work:

YesYesNo began as a studio operated by three friends, two of whom always said ‘yes’ to every potential project and one who was always saying ‘no’. A lot of their projects are about using body or gestures, so they avoid using interface, buttons and instructions. What’s cool about them is that they create something that someone just understands, either from watching other people or from experimenting it themselves. Their idea of the future of interactive design: Smaller devices = new modes of interaction and better and different sensors = new modes of sensing. The future of designing also means using new means of fabrication, such as laser cutting and 3D printing.

Here’s some interactive design they did for Nike and a short glimpse into their other work:
