Ars Electronica 2013 – The Highlights

Posted on | September 10, 2013

Like every year at the Beginning of September, one of my year’s festival highlights is taking place. Nope, it’s neither BURNING MAN – although I’ve been tempted for a while now to jump into this mind-widening desert experience – nor the cool tech fair IFA in Berlin which is heavily pushed in the  mass media these days. It is a festival called ARS ELECTRONICA which is taking place in a small Austrian city, called Linz.  Ars Electronica – that means immersing yourself in topics that represent the ‘zeitgeist’ in a merge of art, media and technology. Ars Electronica – that also means being confronted with a dense program of symposia, round-table discussions, art & sound installations and performances on such a highly intellectual level that you can only indulge yourself in the content, catch what you can and… occasionally try catching your breath.

Highlights of the Fête des lumières 2012 in Lyon

Posted on | December 11, 2012

‘La Fête des Lumières’ – the Festival of Lights – is an annually held event that takes place in Lyon, France.

The festival expresses gratitude towards Mary, mother of Jesus, on December 8 of each year. Every house places candles along the outsides of all the windows which has a beautiful aesthetical effect throughout the streets. The festival, which includes dozens of activities based on light lasted as usual 4 days, with the peak of activity on December 8th.

There were light displays projected onto iconic buildings and many light installations were mounted throughout the city. This was my third year at the festival and seeing the latest trends in light design from artists around the world influences my work and my knowledge tremendously.

The entire collection of installations with artists and the explanations behind the art work can be purchased on request at

Here a selection of my highlights upfront:

VIENNAFAIR 2012 — The vision and passion of the two artistic directors Christina Steinbrecher and Vita Zamanis is to bring the newest and brightest contemporary art and artists to ‘The New Contemporary art fair VIENNAFAIR’ and to present artists in Vienna that might not have been presented elsewhere.

My observation after seeing all of these year’s exhibits: Heads and bodies played a central role in this year’s art fair.

Stefan Zsaitsits is an Austrian artist. Most of his drawings, presented by Gallery Lang, showed a fat red dot on their tags.
