Inspiration Trip 2013 #1: Berlin

Posted on | January 29, 2013

2013’s early days and it was time to hit the road again.

5 days in BERLIN: 7 meetings, 3 exhibitions and lots of inspiring networking and catching up with friends.

After very inspiring talks with Carsten Fillinger and Gerald Hensel from Scholz & Friends, Stefan Schmidt from Dieckertschmidt, Karsten Warrinck from Ambermedia, Brand Experience Expert Christian Vatter, Photographer and Public Space Curator Gregor Frotscher and Josef Lentsch and Ulf Brandes from the RSA that will feed some new piece of city research which I am currently working on, I was already more than content. It’s the so-called ‘cherry on the cake’ when you get the chance to absorb all kinds of impressions from walking the streets with your camera, talking to friends, taxi drivers, and anyone keen to express themselves in the city whose residents call it ‘a place where you feel free’. Freedom to express one’s opinion – on house walls, in their daily work, in the way people dress and how they express – whatever it may be.

The downsider was some noticeable frustration about the much-discussed topics of ‘gentrification’ and ‘the hate against the Swabians’ that passed every meeting and dinner table.

Some post-it’s and a bunch of lights

Posted on | October 21, 2012

The BEFORE and AFTER experience is the greatest satisfaction for a creative. My next project. An installation.
This is the BEFORE – an exhibition hall:

Our material: LED Throwies – yes, I seriously considered at some stage to build them myself – but then chose the time-efficient version: the ‘ready-to-use’ ones.
Plus: 3M Post-it’s. Lots of Post-it’s.

Spectacular 3D projection mapping

Posted on | October 14, 2012

This has truly been the best 3D projection mapping I’ve ever seen. Last night, on Oct 13, a couple of thousand Viennese gathered in front of Karlskirche. Applause to Markos Aristides Kern from the Munich agency ‘Visual Drugstore’ who created this astonishing show. Sound came from Makossa & Megablast – absolutely amazing. What I loved especially was the artful approach and the architectural layers that made the projection wander through various historical eras. Each time Intel appeared on screen who were the sponsors of this event (and the integration of the brand was chosen very carefully for my taste), the girl next to me said: ‘Screw Intel’ and I was tempted to tell her to go home if she didn’t enjoy the show. Ignorant people who don’t understand that nothing comes free these days. Anyway, I highly enjoyed it – here are some photos:
